Equipment and Costs

You will be using a HD video-camera from the university (Panasonic HC-V700 or HC-V770), unless you have your own equipment. In that case, please bring your camera with you to Class for Workgroup 3.

We will request you to sign a users-agreement in which you accept full responsibility for replacement of the equipment in case of theft or loss.

Please bring an SD card (min. 16GB, 45MB/s/80MB/s, Klasse 10) to Workgroup 2 when we will distribute and practice with the cameras.  (see Info on Workgroup 2)

Adobe Premiere

Below the necessary information to purchase Adobe Premiere Creative Cloud via Surfspot! You can use one license on two computers, so it might be best to share a license with one of your co-students.

https://www.surfspot.nl/adobe-creative-cloud-met-services-student.html

Please carefully read the instructions on the above mentioned page. During the installation/activation process of Adobe Creative Cloud, there will be a step that asks you for Credit card details. You don’t have to give Adobe any of these details and we strongly advice you not to. Because your subscription will then automatically be renewed after one year and you may have to pay the full price!

External Harddrive

To store your audio-visual assignments and film material you will need your own external hard drive (500GB/1TB/2TB, USB 3.0 connection). If you work on a Mac be sure to format your external drive for Mac & PC (format in exFAT) so that you can also work on the university computers. We strongly advice you to upload your video-footage on your external hard drive, so that you can always move between computers (beware to always use the same version of Adobe Premiere on all computers) and to avoid loss of your material when your computer crashes.

Always make a back-up copy of your footage and your projects either in the cloud or on your computer, but be careful not to slow the computer down by uploading too much video-footage!

For those of you with an Apple computer:

It is best not to upgrade to the newest OS: Big Sur, as it seems Adobe Premiere may encounter issues with that version of the operating system. (see explanation on Surfspot)

“Note: You may experience compatibility issues if you have MacOS Big Sur (MacOS 11) operating system.” Read the current information about this issue on the Adobe site.

Requirements to use Adobe Premiere on your computer:

Can be found on this page: https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/user-guide.html/premiere-pro/system-requirements.ug.html

It is important that your internet also supports the use of Adobe Premiere, as the program is used via a link with Adobe’s ‘Creative Cloud’, so it will not be installed on your computer, but remains in the cloud.
